Thoughts on new Jetta GLi

So, my Saab days maybe coming to end. Currently have an '08 9-3 aero SC with manual.
I've been looking and test driving, and have been pretty disappointed in what I've found in the world of mid-size sedans and wagons.
First off, I'm looking at leasing new. Mileage isn't an issue, and I'll worry about next step in 3 years (don't need commentary on this decision)
I've looked at and driven the Mazda 6, which C&D claims to be the most fun to drive. Nice looking car, great interior, lots of gadgets, but really slooohttp://wwwww.
Subaru Legacy, very comfortable, nice ride.... also slooohttp://www. However I did drive the 6 cyl. which was nice, but I think its more than I want to spend.
Looked at Volvo S60. Too small, and too pricey. That finally brought me to look at VW. I assumed I should look at the Passat, and remember Passat's being a blast to drive several years ago. Looking at the stats now, I think its going to be similar to the Mazda. Why no 2.0L turbo on the passat?
So, looking down a step at the jetta, the GLi has what I want, and surprisingly has a back seat comparable to the other sedans.
I've looked into pricing, and its right in line with what I'm looking for. Unfortunately, the local dealer doesn't have one on the lot, but I'm going to check out to see if I like the interior and feel of the car.
Thoughts on the GLi? other cars that might be fun, but still have plenty of interior room? Is the VW going to be a major let down from the 9-3? (think I'll use my old '01 se as the comparison instead of the v6)
I'm 6'-3", and wife would like the ability to take friends along, and I just want something that's a least a little fun.
Thanks,
Adam in VT
