And, you can't drive it Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Wed, 1 Apr 2015 03:27:36 In Reply to: Just one short story, No Snaab, Tue, 31 Mar 2015 15:25:46 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Or at least you can't drive it very much.
Impecably maintained 348s with under 10K miles are selling for under $50K. Not chump change by any means but not a budget buster for many people eaither. What you have to stop and realize is that these cars are ~20 years old and still have under 10K miles of driving!
Major Maintenance intervals for these cars are 5 years or 30K miles, which ever comes first, and should be expected to cost around $7k. 500 miles/year for five years and $7k for the Major Maintenance. Effectively $3 per mile!
I did find two great DIY websites; FerrariChat and My348. I was surprised how many 348 & 355 owners are DIY types, including pulling their own engines using floor jacks and furniture dollies, so the owners of the low priced models are pretty much regular folks. Regular folks who can somehow afford to own a car that they never drive.
The recommended engine starting sequence for a 348 as described on My348 illustrates just how much these cars are only semi-civilized and streetable competition cars rather than true street cars.
I have had my two weeks of dreaming, now back to doing needed maintenance on my Viggen.
