We bought a 2014 S60 new in October 2013 and love it. We have the old 5-cylinder 2.5L engine and it has plenty of power and gets better gas mileage than our two 9-5s and runs on regular gas like our Aeros.
The S80 is soon to be replaced with the S90 on a new platform. The new T5, 4-cylinder, 2.0L engine, mated with the eight speed auto transmission is plenty of power at 240hp. The old T6, 3.0L, 6-cylinder and rated at 19/28mpg and I have read is thirstier if pushed hard.
The new T6 drive-e is turbocharged and supercharged, over 300hp and although I have not test driven it, should be sporty with a modest compromise in fuel economy but still much better than your 9-5. I don't think the S80 is offered with the new T6 in 2015 models.
Have you considered the V60 or XC60? You can get the new T6 engine in both and the fuel economy, even in the heavier XC60 is still very good.
If you like your Saabs, I recommend a Volvo. You may be disappointed if you go Japanese and mx costs on the Germans may be higher than on the Saabs/Volvos. The Swedespeed forums can give you more info on the S80/S60/V60/XC60. Happy hunting.
