I didn't mean a cheap trick that could possibly cause harm to the engine or my baby('03 9-5 Aero)! Explanation below...
I also researched, long ago(For my '99 9-5)and again recently, about the ECU upgrades, and their various tuners. They are, by far, the best bang for the buck when it comes to upgrades. If only I had an extra $1000-2000. :( Still saving!
I am not trying to bash Saab, I was simply relating the price for Saab's upgrades, to the inexpensive alternative upgrades(Useless w/T7 ECU) available on other cars. Just like the CAI and pulley's(20hp) I had on my Subaru Impreza, or the racing high lift/duration cams(40hp) in my Trans Am, for a 10th of the price...
I am just looking to duplicate the "optimum conditions" to maintain peak boost(HP/TQ). Since the Trionic ECU adapts to airmass, ignition, octane, and temperature, even keeping my foot planted on the floor doesn't guarantee full boost(12-13psi)...
So what I am actually asking is this... If the ECU adapts down(restricts TQ) for hot air and low octane. What would the perfect conditions be to run 100% of the available boost(258TQ)? And, if their are any products out there that could help achieve that medium more often?
Obviously, running higher octane and cooler air would help in this situation. So I also researched about larger intercoolers, intercooler water sprayers, and octane boosters that might help. Any tips/suggestions??? I once ran my car with 104 octane racing fuel, and noticed an improvement in peak boost and throttle response. But does anyone know what the maximum octane and the coolest air the ECU could adapt to?
Sorry for such lenghthy explanations and questions, I just felt like I was being misunderstood or treated like a Saab newbie...
I still want an ECU, but cant afford it yet. I think my Aero is fast enough for now, but I'm just looking for an inexpensive way of taking advantage of that wonderful boost!
Thanks in advance and sorry for any confusion,
David
