1) is the fracture even just a little bit out of place
2) is the fracture at the joint out of place
3) did they offer you the option of surgery?
4) Did the tip of the radius bone 'shorten', by rotating into a position where the tip of the bone no longer points up?
BTW the bone is the Radius.
Sometimes, because this is a common fracture, surgeons blow it off despite the fact that surgery will improve it significantly and reduce the risk of arthritis. The surgery is generally a 20 minute same day procedure that does not slow you or your business down. The surgery usually is quick and easy, so the reimbursement from insurance is not that good, making surgeons look the other way. This is also such a common fracture that surgeons with limited OR time don't want to lose out on other cases because they used up their available time on what they perceive as a common fracture. Problem is, a couple of well placed pins in the operating room can save you a lifetime of grief. That is why I am asking you these questions. Telling me this will be good enough for welding leads me to believe that the surgeon is a saying good enough is OK. I am not that kind of guy. Perfect function is what you need in a manual laborer. It makes a difference, so that you are not crippled at 45-50 years old.
