I bought mobil 5W30 from walmart. Come to find out, it doesn't have the same specs as 0w40 or 15w50. The HTHS rating, or a measure of viscosity at high temp & shear rates, doesn't even meet the min spec of my engine. It appears the lower the number, the better your gas mileage, due to less drag in the engine. That probably explains why the oil has the energy conserving rating.
The higher the number, the better the wear protection is for the connecting rod bearings, etc. I assume the same idea applies to protection of the brass bushings in the turbos, especially the thrust bearing.
I'll definitely go back with 0w40 the next time. I'm just giving one example of why you should to compare specific weights of mobil vs. amsoil or anything else.
