I got away from over boost concerns by going to an SQR ECU. The fuel mapping allows for higher boost levels and raises the fuel-cutoff threshold. I am running stage 4, with a Dawes Device MBC. I spike to the limitation of the MBC, around 1.5 bar (21.7psi) then levels off to around 1.3-1.4 bars (19-20psi). No fuel cut-off, just prodigious BMW leaving acceleration. . . The spikes I think are ok because the fuel mapping for stage-4 is programmed for closer to 24psi. So I run a little rich than lean which is good for limiting the detonation.
