In addition to what Simon says (where have I heard that before???), analogue is much easier to read because you don't have to 'read' it.
Analogue works better because we can judge the 'proximity' of a reading. Ever notice how much easier it is to read an analogue clock vs a digital one? It's because we don't 'read' the analogue one once we become aware of the proximity of the hands....we know what 6 o'clock looks like. Likewise for our speedometer, tach, etc. That's why digital read-out dashboards have failed so badly.
