...I am running a Red Box, 3.0bar FPR, and vacuum advance capsule all pulled from a '93 CE. I use exclusively 94 octane Chevron petrol which is plentily available here in Vancouver, BC, and I still get knocking sometimes when boost peaks mid-red on the stock gauge, which tends to be when the T3 first spools during a pull so 3000-3500rpm range.
I'm running 712 injectors and a 538 LH 2.2 ECU pulled from an '88 T16, as well as later intercooler and bigger pipes from a '91 T16.
The car is running really well other than this occasional knock. I wonder if my present setup just can't fuel enough for the boost the Red Box is trying to dump in?
I'm not ready to spring for another intercooler or bigger exhaust just yet, but perhaps what I need is your Stage 1 LH 2.2 chip and 30# injectors?
Other thing that has crossed my mind is I should try setting timing with pressure applied to the vacuum advance capsule (but how much?), rather than setting for 16BTDC with the hose plugged.
I've been wanting to swap in the TE05 (and all associated water cooling stuff which I have on the shelf) but have been hesitant to go for faster spool lower down when I have this knocking issue...
Your thoughts and time are much appreciated!
Cheers,
--jeff
