Code P0420 and Anti-Foulers Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Fri, 17 Dec 2010 11:03:06 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I had hoped to be posting today that I successfully installed a pair of anti-foulers between the rear O2 sensor and my downpipe in an attempt to permanently eliminate my recurring P0420 code. Unfortunately, the nose of the O2 sensor is larger than 1/2 inch diameter, the largest drill bit I own and the recommended bore out size on the internet stories I found.
What I did learn was:
- my rear O2 sensor was coated with black carbon
- the 1/2-inch rebore is too small
- the maximum rebore size is likely 9/16's due to thinness of anti-fouler shell
- this job may be possible with ony one anti-fouler
- my fingers get stiff fast in 25 degree F weather when working on the car outdoors
- there is insufficient space in my GS downpipe for a longer Cat, but lots of space in the straight pipe behind it for a second Cat if necessary.
Hopefully I can get this installed in a couple months and report back on whether it does eliminate the P0420 code. If the anti-fouler fitting doesn't do the trick I am leaning towards having a second Cat installed and relocating the rear O2 sensor behind it. I wonder if the O2 sensor cable extension sold for use with the 9-3SS cars will fit the 9-5 connectors?
