I'm going to give a slightly different answer... why not make it a convertible... sure the body won't be as rigid, and there is the extra weight... but having a convertible in autocross form could be fun for jaunts on non-autocross days and give you more use out of the car... plus you don't really care if the top goes up, cause you ain't going be racing in the rain anyway, (or at least why bother). And since this is an extra car, you won't really need to use it in bad weather (and probably won't with performance tires on it).
You could go with either a T-5 or T-7 engine. Since more an more autocrossing is about handling than speed, while some here say the T-5 is more robust for cranking up the HP, it sounds like for bang for buck more money should be put into suspension than the engine and all you would really want is to go to Stage 1 or 2 tune, and the T-7 might be better as the "Sport" mode not only changes the shift points but also throttle response.
