I put this post in the 9-3 forum first by mistake...sorry for the dual post.

Anyways...

I figured I'd post this question at the risk of sounding rediculous just to see what you all think.

I've been shopping for an ECU upgrade for my 2001 Viggen for some time now, but the only place I've been able to find in the states is Abbott, and they want in excess of $1200 for it (no way)...I've checked overseas as well, but haven't gotten around to sending em the serial # off my current unit yet.

Well, here's the part where you may laugh.

I have this good friend...who thinks he can do the reprogramming and upgrade himself...

Sounds rediculous...but there are a few things about him that make me stop and think.

1) He's a genius (IQ 180+)
2) He has extensive experience with cars...performance mods and street racing.
3) He is amazing with computers...probably better than anyone I've ever seen, and I work in the industry.
4) I haven't seen him fail yet at anything he's claimed to be able to do, if it is possible.

Now...I'm thinking the major limitation would be if special equipment is neccessary to do such an upgrade.

Does anyone know the process and equipment they use to reprogram a Trionic L7? I am skeptical...but I just thought it wouldn't hurt to get some opinions and do a little research before scrapping the idea.
