Yeah, after some research on BDM programming (and having looked inside a Trionic box before) I suppose anyone familiar with embedded systems programming that has the proper development environment (a couple hundred $'s) could start hacking.
but, the caveat here is you have to know what to write to the EPROMS! It would be very easy to make the car run poorly (or not at all). That's where the expertise and/or special equipment at the link I provided comes in... You're as good as helpless without it. I'm sure they don't sell that equipment cheaply... Proprietary systems are NEVER inexpensive, especially for such a specialized area. And how many other competitors are out there that provide Trionic compatible development environments.
Another snag is the fact that the EPROMS most likely have checksums embedded here and there... plus, you'll need a Tech II to "marry" the modified T7 ECU to the car (I hate that... T5 is so much better in that regard).
Well... This is all well and good to sit back and contemplate how to attack this problem. I'd like to hear from someone who HAS done such work but my guess is that they wouldn't exactly be forthcoming with information. Gotta protect the "intellectual property" ya know!
