The Haynes manual covers transmission rebuild as well. It gives more of a DIY approach to the rebuild, without requiring all the specialty tools. I did find it helpful, when used in conjunction with the Saab manual.
With a few basic tools, and some inguinity, you will be able to perform the rebuild. I also had a press, dial indicator, micrometers, calipers, and an inside mic available, and was able to do it all. Removing the pinion bearing was a PIA, the dealer would have set it up for me for $75. But I stubbornly chose to do it myself (and spent two days on it!). I used a bearing splitter to remove the bearing (PIA #1). To torque the bearing to the proper preload spec you need to firmly hold the shaft in a vise. (easier said than done!)I used an old syncro hub (splined on the ID to engage the shaft)with two flats ground on it (so it could be clamped in a vise). Worked real well. Too bad it took me a day to figure it out!
Good luck with the project, and have fun....
