I agree with both Andy and Tony that the Silverstars are brighter than stock. Sylvania optimized the output of these bulbs to be at the upper limit of the DOT requirement for bulbs. Like the others, compared to stock, these bulbs are much brighter with a whiter color to them. I have compared them to PIAA Platinum and can assure you that the PIAAs are not as bright on the same car. I also tried the PIAA Super Plasma GTs and those are still not as bright as the Silverstars. The PIAA Super Plasma GT in my experience most closely resemble the "HID" look but at the expense of light output. Another alternative is to try the Sylvania Xtravision bulbs which are similarly optimized like their Silverstar siblings if you are more concerned about light output vs. looks. Not knowing what car you have, if you have a 9000 series car, you should try the modified 9005 bulb for the low beams. This will give you an increased light output of 70% over stock. It definitely blows away anything that Sylvania or PIAA has. This is what I am running on my 96 9000CS. The only downside to this modification is that they will not give you an "HID" look but I sure do like the way these modified bulbs produce light down the street at night without blinding oncoming traffic. Hope this helps.
