We need to measure and weld. I need to look at the unit again, as the last one I looked at came off my 1986 SPG that lost a fight with a 1/2 ton. I still own the thing, but it is en-route from Canada. We need to somehow "thin" the unit to fit within the current unit. To do so, I think a long gradual arc in the "donor" unit will narrow the unit enough to fit within the one that is there. We will not re-use the whole unit, rather we will keep the factory welds of the bar to the flat sides. Then we just need to weld or bolt to the exhisting unit, given we already saved the stock attatchments of the bar to the sides. Makes things easier. Arc might be bent in using pipe benders OR persuaders (10 lb hammers).
What are your ideas Mike?
And Vince, thanks for the info!
