...from A to B, it would leave anything for dead. I have driven 300bhp Mitsi Evos as well. Equally as awesome. We are lucky in the UK having plenty of each. And other mad AWD Jap rockets (Nissan Pulsar, Skyline etc).
Now if we are talking straightline drag racing, traction is everything. Getting AWD off the line is tricky without bogging down (generally no good just letting out the clutch at 5krpm), but once the clutch is engaged, wow. Remember, the Audi RS2 is quicker than a Mclaren F1 to 30mph. I would love an RS2.
Scoobs and Evos can carry phenomenal cornering speeds. There handling and roadholding is a revelation. Depends what your priorities are. I do not believe a modded-to-death 9000 or 900 will EVER keep up with a Scoob or Evo down a typical UK B-road. Even 400bhps worth of Maptuned monster. "You canna change the laws of physics", one well-educated Starship Enterprise crew member once uttered.
Top Gear magazine once got a bog standard 208bhp (that's 208, not 280) Impreza turbo to 60mph in 5.2 secs. Effortlessly. And it was white and looked crap. Mine was good for mid 4s.
My unmodded 97 9k Aero pulls very hard indeed. That's what 250odd pounds of torque and a nice torque curve gives you. But it ain't a Scoob. Yes it will easliy keep up with a standard 215bhp Scoob at motorway (freeway) speeds with your foot down, but is that the point?
So, what are we talking about here - straight line speed, or real-world A-to-B road munching.
Not meaning to sound contentious.

PS: I love my Scoob and 9000 equally.
I also love EVOs, skylines, pulsars...
