5 speeds - general thoughts, Q's looking for schematics Posted by Bryan [Email] (#542) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bryan) on Sat, 9 Apr 2005 19:45:48 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
mistakenly i posated this on the non-HP BB. oops
i'm just working my way through my first 900 spg project, and have realized so many folks talk about (have had) tranny problems with higher horsepower cars in the 220-230 range. i've heard all sorts of stories, most of them about failed trannies.
so i am interested in reviewing the design schematic and wonder if anyone knows of a link to one
on a tangential but related thought, how do all of you with those beautiful hopped up C900 turbos, spgs, airflows, etc. keep transmissions in your cars? Are you not stepping on it or is it just a matter of how one driver uses his/her throttle/clutch? i hesitate to put 250-260 horse into my engine and not be able to use it without 2 and 3 gear crashing-but at the same time, i want to build a 900 that is durable-
by the way, why don't we all band together and pay a machinist to create a bunch of the .72 gear ratio primary drives that were only available in europe and are so hard to come by? seems like that would help all of us that are having problems with the useless 1 and 2 gear in the spgs, etc., and also reduce the torque through the tranny....Seriously, I guess we could create any ratio for that matter. It's basic engineering and machinist tooling-
Or am I the only one who wants this gearing?
interested in hearing thoughts on this-and i've heard a lot of great advice on the site and i really appreciate what some of the greater saab community is doing - i've only been saabing for a few yewars, but i love this site for good q/a~
