trans coolers etc Posted by bryan [Email] (#542) [Profile/Gallery] (more from bryan) on Mon, 3 Oct 2005 17:30:16 In Reply to: so I talked with scanwest today...., GM, Mon, 3 Oct 2005 14:27:08 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
i would be interested in purchasing a mac daddy scanwest tranny also, and wonder if a multi group buy would help the cost. id like to talk to them about internal bracing for the shafts and if they've considered it.
thought you might be interested, i am in the process of plumbing a tranny cooler, here's what i've found and believe to be true based on the design of the tranny:
if you pull the hot oil, and drop the cooled oil, into the differential, which is not openly exhanging oil with the rest of the tranny, the oil won't (can't) cool efficiently. need to find alternate place to drop the cooled oil, near the front of the trans case (look at how the oil moves through the case, and also the physics of it). i am looking for the right spot, and will find it.
an efficient trans heat exchanger has got to help alot. seems like snipes had the perfect spot, behind the front grill. although it is convenient, the stock auto trans oil cooler for the c900 can't be efficient enough. it's got to be too small.
use a real oil pump. the only electric one that seems readily viable is the tilton. it is made for the task. otherwise, better monitor flow, because you probably won't be getting what you hope for.
i might be biased, but after looking into this technically for about 8 months and talking to some other saabers with great information, i think this represents a really good setup (with a filter somewhere). yep it will cost rougly $400, but the benfits of oil temps within the range of their protectability should be the goal.
i also will be using shockproof heavyweight.
