If there is air still in system the pedal should get firm by a couple of quick pumps and then hold. If it is the same either nothing is wrong, or something else is the problem.
If the rear shoes are adjusted close, you may just need to drive it a while to seat new front pads?
Some times you can detect worn brake master seals by pushing very slowly on pedal, if it sinks to floor seals worn out. Then push quickly, if it now holds this confirms worn seals. The seals have a slight cup shape near the edges and the quick push expands them, pushes outward to the bore.
But it is good practice to rebuild or replace a Sonett master, as they are mounted so low all the water ends up there and causes damage.
Once rebuilt, change fluid every year and they will out last you, probably <g>
