The jack and block of wood trick did the job for getting the plug out with the slotted 10mm socket. When I got the plug out, the magnet on the top of the plug had a noticeable amount of metal filings/bits on it. Not a lot, I guess, but noticeable. I know that is not good, per se, but is that typical on these old V4 transmissions?
I picked up a 20 metric drain plug (with a hex head) at the hardware store (seemed the closest in size), but I'm not sure if the thread pitch is exactly the same. So, I will try putting it in gently to see if it fits the threads tightly enough without damaging anything. It is not as long as the original plug and does not have a magnet tip. Is that a concern?
