Mysterious gas leak Posted by John B [Email] (#233) [Profile/Gallery] (more from John B) on Tue, 19 Sep 2000 19:30:36 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
This morning when I started out, I got a faint wiff of gas which I ignored because it took a bit of cranking to get my '71 started, having sat for a week or two. No sooner had I gotten out of the driveway and started accelerating, I noticed a fluid blowing back from the hood onto the windshied in front of me. Sure enough it was gas, so I turned right around and drove back into the garage. After I stopped, quite a bit dripped from the frame. As I was in a rush, I didn't stop to trace the source, figureing I would easily find it tonight. I only noted that it was near the fuel pump. Of course when I started it up tonight, no leak!!! Any ideas? Gas line is only one year old and clamps are tight. The fuel pump leaks a small bit of oil, but NEVER had a fuel leak. Nice days are getting fewer and fewer and I want to get in as much pleasure drives as I can before they start coating the roads with salt. Can't very well enjoy anything if gas may start pouring forth onto the exaust at any time. Thanks!
