Personally, I've got a III, but I'd like to have a V4. So much for personal bias!
You've already gotten some good points, but here are a couple more:
-- Engine and front suspension access is much easier on the V4 because of the tilt nose. Good if you like to tinker.
-- III was higher production than V4 and it's also more recent, so it's statistically more probable to find a good *original* III if that is your goal. On the other hand, just because the V4s are older, I suspect few have survived unless they've had a restoration or going-over at some point in their lives; so, I'd posit that the *average* condition of surviving V4s is better.
-- III is definitely more practical as a "driver": more refined interior, hatch glass (holds a week's worth of groceries for one person, no problem), plus a few maintenance-saving "modern conveniences" such as sealed ball joints.
-- V4 has column shift, III has floor shift; some people strongly prefer one over the other (only you know which one YOU prefer.)
If you don't have a strong preference in one of these areas, it probably makes more sense to buy on condition than on model, since they're basically very similar under the skin and a good example of either one will be a whole lot easier to live with than a ratty example of the other.
