After owning a herd of Saabs in the 70's (95, 99's) I have always admired (lusted for) the Sonett. Money was tight and family obligations came first and so it was not to be.
I now find myself thinking about a Sonett project and wondering where to start or wondering if maybe the senility has just kicked in prematurely. I have a few questions:
From this site it appears that cars are still around and that some are for sale. Are parts still available for these cars. Does Saab offer any support with any parts inventory? I just finished fixing up an 82 Porsche 924 with my son and was surprised to discover that Porsche still offers almost a complete line of replacement parts (expensive!). Do any aftermarket suppliers offer anything. Are used parts available at reasonable prices?
I read a lot about rust. How big a problem is this?
Is there any literature-repair manuals, whatever?
I recall that at least some of the Sonetts had the Ford V4. Did they all have this engine? Fuel injection-What type?
I am in Massachusetts. Is there any activity in this area? I think I last spotted a Sonett in about 1987!
Any information anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated. I'm having fun thinking about this and would seriously consider getting involved if the whole thing seemed do-able.
