If you need an easy add-on to take the edge off the exhaust note, and don't mind losing valuable points when you enter your Sonett at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance ; ) try this:
I went to a local Tractor Supply Company store where they had a whole rack of tractor mufflers on display -- found one made for Ford tractors that had the right size tubing inlet and was very small diameter, fits easily under the car. This is completely a reflective-type muffler -- you can see right through from one end to the other, very low restriction, the muffler effect comes from fins in the tubes that reflect some of the sound waves back so they cancel each other out.
I just sawed off the last 24 inches of tailpipe and clamped this guy on, supporting it with a hanger from the rear bumper bracket. It smooths out the exhaust sound just enough so it still sounds assertive but you don't get that God's-Own-Chainsaw effect at 65mph. And when I'm going to run autocross or want to annoy the neighbors I can just unclamp it, slide it off, and put back on the original pipe section via a coupling sleeve.
