Radio installation..how tough..

So today I bought an original AM/FM radio from Andrews of Princeton. They said it was missing knobs and that there was a crack in the plastic face plate. But for $15, I couldn't pass it up. But it will not be here till next week so I haven't seen it. It's for a '72.
So then I go down to the dealer and check out my car (picking it up next week..finally) and the majority of the radio is hidden behind the fiberglass dash. You can see the station indicator, the buttons, and the two knobs on either side, but the rest is all behind the dash. I was under the impression that there was a removable pannel there and if you wanted a radio, you just removed the panel and slid in a radio. However it is now clear that it is slightly more complicated. The service manual (from Saab) doesn't cover anything on the radio since I believe that was mostly done by dealers rather than the factory.
So anyway, now I have no idea if the radio I purchased (which came from a Sonett) will be a quick change out thing or not. Has anyone else seen anything like what I am describing? If so, your thoughts on how I would best proceed to do this would be appreciated. I don't want to mangle anything.
Hopefully my questions will become more intelligent after I have the car for a while. Right now I feel like the village idiot!
Thanks
Tyler
