George... the choice is yours. mostly depending on how much you drive the car, the way you drive it, whether you are going for an "all original, concours car" or an "upgrade to make it more reliable".
I have a Weber 34ICH installed on my '71 Sonett. MINIMAL changes needed to swap from the FoMoCrap carb. the OE carb has always had problems with the idle circuits getting gummed up. the 34ICH is a nice, smooth carb, manual choke (so you'll need to make a few changes to the coolant hose routings & install a choke cable).
The stock "double snorkel" CAN be used with minor mounting adjustments, mainly the 34ICH has no throat mounting stud. so you'll need to use an air cleaner assy from, say an earlier Sonett V4, or add the 2 legs to mount to the valve covers (and plug up the top hole), OR you can go with a small, round, Volkswagon style clamp on cleaner, like I have.
I've also installed low-profile motor mounts to aid in the *minimal* hood clearance.
I'll be out of town for the next 2 days... but email me off line if you'd like some pictures. saabdude@bellsouth.net
Enjoy!
