Carb adjustment

I just can't seem to get my carb adjusted right. When at low RPM and I step on the gas, the engine stumbles before it comes to life. I have the Holly on it that the previous owner said MSS had modified. The engine supposedly has all the other MSS bits on it so it really goes once it gets past the initial hesitation. I have played with the ammount of travel the accelerator pump has and just can't find a happy medium where it doesn't die out for lack of fuel or too much. Anyone know where it all should be adjusted? Thanks!
