Check with a hot shot independant trucker. Freight companies often have a 200-300% markup over what the trucker is paid.
The last car haul a friend of mine did from FL to Oregon was $600... He told me the end customer probably paid close to $2000. These guys generally won't load it... but for an extra $100 and a good meal will. One of the reasons to avoid freight companies, dispatchers, and go direct. It will take time and agravation to find one though, and the time of pickup and delivery is going to be unpredictable. If you have the time to put in, it is an option.
