Bill, here is how the lights should work: The lights are off until you pull the headlights up. That turns on all the lights (headlamps and markers and platelights)via the microswith in the pull rod assembly. The high beam switch (on the left side of steering column) accutates the high beam in the headlamps. The yellow lights in the grill should come on only when the high beams are on and the AUX switch is activated. When you have all lights off, the CL LMP (clearance lamps) switch will turn on just the marker lights.
Also, I have rust-free rockers and can testify that the stock jack that comes with the car does the job with no issues. Slide the jack into the slot provided on the rocker and crank it up. It works great, a very well engineered jack.
Hopefully that helps you understand how the lights are supposed to work as engineered by Saab.
