...Wondered why the wipers moved only milimeters per minute. I fixed them and figured I would share my repair for anyone else with a late model Sonett with the cable actuated wipers.
Opened up the unit, and cable pulled and pushed OK. That left the motor. I openned it up and found that the brushes were sticky with old dried grease, and had pulled away from the stator. I removed the stator, gently used a toothpick to push the brushes from their compartments, carefully saved the springs, sprayed the brushes and their compartments with carb cleaner, then WD40, then reassembled. Now aside from driver's side wiper moving too far and contacting the driver's door, the unit works like a champ.
Next I need to tackle the mouse nest in the fan box. I wondered why the fan was not moving, so I pulled the cover and was able to gently free up some debris. Chewed paper, gobs of cloth fuzz, and the fan now spins well and the switch turns it on. Problem is almost no air is getting to vents. Ductwork is OK, so this means the rest of the nest is further in. Given that this also gives the car an aroma of unwashed gerbil cage when the fan is attempting to blow, I am inclined to fix this before I place the car on the road. Fan will be popped out tomorrow. I will thoroughly spray with Febreeze when I am done.
Finally, I had the car on the road up and down my street today. Brakes work well! Car also has more horsepower than I thought, and I did not pop the clutch when the front tires lost traction and started burning out at WOT in first gear. I was impressed and psyched.
