Driving my 68 around town is the most fun thing I do in my life, involving fewer than two people that is. Recently my oil pressure has dropped to less than 5# after driving a short ditance. Double checked guage and light and compession test shows large drop in one cylinder, but still runs very smooth with good power. Engine has arround 230K, so an engine rebuild is the obvious action to take. Although I have always done all my own maint. and repairs I have limited knowledge of the internals of an engine. So far I have been frozen by indecision. I have help available for the actual rebuild but need advice on best cource of action from people who know this engine. I have a spare 1700 from a 74 parts car with unknown milage but did start before I dimantled the car. I could drop it in to check it out, but carb's in bad shape, don't have good replacement exept Weber on my 68. Rather put the effort and $ into a certain, permanant solution. First decision is which engine to rebuild. Although I would like to gain a little performance, dependability and economy are probably more important. Just don't want to overlook something that would be mutually inclusive. An emmission test is also big limiting factor. If I go with 1700 I'm considering a conservative increase in compression. Increasing the exaust ports and donuts to 1.75" to go with my larger exaust and Weber seems like a safe mod. Lightening the flywheel seems riskier as far as drivability but maybe 1 - 2# might make it more lively. Have access to machine shop so rebalancing would be only cost invoved. Need for more power is not that great but don't want to feel that I missed my opportunity while I had the chance.
Any advice from people with experience and or comments about my thoughts will be greatly appreciated. It really hurts not to be able to drive it more than a couple of miles.

Thanks
Craig
