Which explains an old mystery... Posted by PatQuin [Email] (#52) [Profile/Gallery] (more from PatQuin) on Sun, 30 Mar 2008 15:49:54 In Reply to: Re: lead substitute, Bengt in Sweden, Sun, 30 Mar 2008 05:39:08 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Two years ago I replaced my fuel pump with an electric version, and installed a package with a fuel filter, pump and regulator. The filter was one of those very fine pore size filters that look like a white plastic cube. A couple months later, I gassed up, and the car died--the fuel pump had over heated and failed. I had put the lead substitute in at the time I gassed up. Well, I spent a ton of time looking at the pump and filter to find out why the fuel pump couldn't pull--there were no visual contaiminants in the filter or the remaining fuel. And the tank was pretty clean. Now I'm thinking that the lead substitute may have clogged that filter and starved the pump. Anyone else have this happen?
