Caliper Seal re-installation

I'm trying to install the beck/arnley caliper rebuild kit to my '71 Sonett and am wondering what the best way to install the outer seal and metal ring. Every time I almost have it completely seated (carefully) I see the ring begin to bend. This is my 1st brake job, so I've been reading and researching but have found no advice on this particular part of the job.
Also, I do not have the piston installed at this point.
Help appreciated.
