Tell your friend to the get ready for engine failure. When GM decided to the use the engine to go drag racing in the import category it tested the Ecotec to failure. The con rods all failed at the same time at around 283hp. Check this link:

Saab re-enginered the head, cams, valves, pistons, con rods, oil cooling, crank and liners so the engine would stand up to turbocharging. It would not have done all that unless it was necessary.
