We have the same problem here at Continental. Our service follow up program farts out oil change and service notices that don't correspond to the factory schedule.
If you look in the customizer menu and pull up the service info, it will tell you how much of a percentage or days you have to go until Saab recommends changing the oil or what's technically called an "intermediate service". With only 8,500 miles you likely still have 40% + oil life remaining as for "normal" use the oil life monitor calls for a change around 15k.
As your 9-3 holds over 6 quarts of full synthetic, going 15k ish between changes is perfectly OK according to major magazines technical gurus like those at Road & Track. What's important with 15k changes is that you keep an eye on things inbetween, periodically checking the oil and fluid levels, and tire pressure.
Tire rotation is a mixed bag. Many manufacturers don't recommend tire rotations instead they feel it's best to let the tires wear out where they are at, and replace as needed. The money spent rotating is a significant amount and when you rotate you don't actually increase the total tire life, you just even it out.
