A dealer not tell the whole truth? There is a skosh of truth to that, if you buy a GMPP MajorGuard plan that begins on the inception date of the factory warranty, well yes that policy cannot be purchased after the 36mos/36k miles point.
But go a little deeper into the GMPP rate charts, and depending on your mileage requirements, a 48mos/48k mile MajorGuard warranty for $2,465 purhased at the 3 year mark before 36,000 miles and the coverage begins when you purchase not from the in service date, so that'll give you another 3 years and (36+48) up to 84k miles all at a zero deductible. So that'll give you the same as buying a 7 year/84k miles warranty from the in severvice date. You buy a 48 mos warranty 36 mos out from new and there's a years overlap.
After 36k on the vehicle, say from 36k to 50k, you can still get a GMPP MajorGuard at attractive prices, but it will have a $50 decutible. So for a 2003 and up with less than 50k (36k to 50k) a 36mos/45k MajorGuard warranty with a $50 deductible is $2,485. If you were right at 48 mos and 50k of factory warranty this would put you out antoher 3 years and 45k, out to 95k. So after 36k the price is still pretty much the same, but the deductible jumps up from zero to $50.
