BMW lousy in winter, SAAB lousy for gas theft

I would be suspicious of a 1 year old car. Even if it was only a loaner, those cars get torn up by people testing the car's limits. If the question was different, i.e. the SAAB was the 1 year old car, I'd be wary of it.
BMW are not very good in snowy weather. With AWD, it's just passable. I think that many Audis are FWD to begin with and their AWD versions have more torque to the front, which is better in winter.
The general public thinks BMWs and Lexuses are good cars and SAABs are unusual. This causes some people to like SAABs and others to hate them.
I think SAABs are safer cars. If you really value this aspect, you could always argue that it's better to be safe then dead in a dangerous car. Some years, other car designs have been better but so far SAAB has remained competitive and has kept improving in safety constantly.
