There is no diesel car market in the US, and there is no demand for diesel powered cars in the US. They would never sell. That boat has long since sailed.
Not since the early 80s have diesel cars sold in any appreciable volumes. Those cars were noisy, stunk and were slow. The American car buyers perception of diesel powered cars hasn't changed, despite quantum leaps made in cureent diesel engine technology and its popularity in Europe. In addition, there are no incentives (tax or otherwise-increased fuel economy notwithstanding) for Americans to buy diesel cars, especially since diesel fuel costs are roughly equivalent to that of premium unleaded.
SAAB is such a low volume carmaker anyway, they would never sell enough of them to justify the cost of getting them US certified. And offering diesel powered cars would not increase their US marketshare. So there's no point in brinigng them over.
The Biopower engines are a different matter...SAAB should seriously think about bringing those over to the US soon.
