Dash trim flaking, remote keys not working

First, I rarely post here anymore because 1. i only drive my 9-3 about once a month and 2. Nothing really ever goes wrong with it.
So anyway, I have an 04 9-3SS w/30K. This morning I unlocked the car, drove to the store and locked the car with with the remote. I then could not get the car to unlock with the remote. After a search of the BB I found a few helpful posts that maybe fixed the problem ( disconnected the battery to reset the cpu). Now when I put the key in the ignition it doesn't click like it used to (tried both keys). The keys were replaced about 6 months ago because of a recall and I have never had this problem before.
Next, I noticed that the black rubber like trim is starting to flake in various places on the dash and around the ignition (I only use the key fob with no other keys attached). My car is garaged more than 25 days out of the month and rarely is exposed to extreme sun or heat. Is this something that is happening to anyone elses car? Think it's covered under warrenty?
Anyway thanks for any help or suggestions.
