I have an '04 Linear with the Premium Package that we bought new and absolutely love it.
It just turned 60,000 miles and has been a reliable car. The performance with the 175hp engine and semi-automatic transmission is really somethng special; the car has got a huge "grin-factor" IMHO. It will also run on regular gas - although Premium improves the fuel economy (as you would expect).
Ride quality and handling are really superb (our pervious car was a 3-Series Beemer). And the seats are by far the most comfortable of any car we've ever owned.
There have been some issues with the interior of the car, though, that have been handled under warranty. De-laminating buttons on the dash in particular (apparently not terribly common).
But if I were to do it again (and we will in fact; planning on replacing this car with a SportCombi Aero in about 6 months), I would FOR SURE get the 300w stereo package. The 150w "base" stereo is unfortunately a really bad joke and cannot be upgraded in the after-market cheaply. Perhaps the newer cars have addressed this short-coming...
I would also consider purchasing an extended warranty if you're not planning on leasing.
