Pat,
Sounds like the hydraulic line to 1st bow latch cylinder broke. I have done 2 or 3 so far on cars after the campaign was done. The campaign is suppose to help keep the hose from breaking due to excessive bending. Your are allowed one kink in the hose, any more and you are suppose to replace it. Oil does clean up and I have not see any long term problems.
If it makes you feel any better, I worked at MB for a year or so in 2003. The latch cylinders are in the A pillar area. The lines did not bend, but the cylinders would fail and drench the driver or passenger or both. This is on the older style W129 chassis SL convertibles (1991-2002) and they cost a whole lot more than a Saab.
As far as the 15K service, You get what Saab pays for. Saab continues to cut labor times for the maintaince services. A 2004 pays .7 hours (42 minutes) where a 2003 paid 1.2 hours (one hour and 12 minutes) and now a 2006 pays .6 hours (36 minutes). Their explanation is that we don't have to do as much on a service as we used to. Indeed, look at your service/warranty book and you will see a difference in the first and second intermediate service items.
As a tech, my pay is calculated by a very simple formula; my hourly rate(which is very much different than the shop hourly rate) times billable hours that I generate. I believe in giving every 04 owner their .7 worth.
Your oil concern may or may not be a concern. Dealer techs know that this car gets Full syn oil. Unforturnately, the parts guys and service writers are not always in the know. Most times they do know, but they may be using an outdated computer system uses a canned parts list that may not have been updated to reflect the fact that full syn oil was used. The good news is that if something was to happen you would have a legal document that states the wrong spec oil was used.
Good luck,
Steve C
