The old 9-3 setup was somewhat better and better quality buttons but the manual AC control (3 knob) system was a mechanical nightmare. I bought 2 of these cars both with manual AC because of its simplicity, but when the knob comes off in your hand in pieces it wasn't pleasant.
The 93SS infotainment system and the ACC is a bit overdone and really lacks logic. I don't really mind all the buttons but when you have so many buttons that don't have any function it really shows that it was not thought out right or costs were cut. I do like the binnacle display but it would be really nice if I could get time, date and temperature all at the same time like on my old 9-3. The lack of a weather band radio is a backward step compare to the old 9-3 and the window controls should still be in the console, not on the door where. But the Aux input was really a good idea, if not ahead of its time, at least very un Saablike punctuality for offering this feature.
New 9-3 dash, I've only seen pics so impression may change but I don't care for the bling-bling chrome accents all over. I like a businesslike cockpit like SAAB used to be famous for, the bling should be optional. The new ACC controls look like an improvement, all this and we have returned to what looks like 3 multifunctinal knobs. Loss of the binnacle display would be a downside if others in the cabin cannot see the information.
