I was driving my 96 900s with 170K on her, bought the car new three years ago. On the way home from a long business trip I hit black ice. I could keep the car on the road going straight, but the road curved sharply after sliding about 150 feet. It all happened in slow motion. I went in to the side ditch and over a hill. The police officer told me later the car flipped at least three times. The last thing I remember was putting my hands and arms over my head as I went off the road. Took two weeks for me to get it together, thought about the accident over and over, couldn’t sleep etc… I went and saw the car which was totaled and realized how well designed it was to protect the passengers. The car was crushed front and back and all the windows were gone, but the roof held its own and the passenger compartment was intact. I got a new 93 because I would be dead if I were in most other cars, and it made me feel safe that was the big thing for me. I knew that if I was in another accident my Saab would protect me as well, if not better, than any car on the road.
