If you want to keep lawyers off your back when you build cars, it's best to have the speedo read high and the odo to count fewer miles than actual. They have to account for tread wear too. If it read precisely with new tires the speedo would read too low with 1/4 tread left and it would count too many miles on your leased car. Wheel speed comes from the average of the two FRONT wheels and then goes to trionic and from there goes to the main instrument unit and reads on the speedo Then to confuse the setup a bit more the average of the REAR wheels is used for the odometer. Therefore any tread difference between front and rear will show up as a discrepancy between the speedo and odo.
