We've got an '04 Linear with the "Premium Package" (automatic climate control, 5-speed semi-manual transmission, 16" wheels) that was purchased new in June of 2004.

We've put 79,000 miles on the car and have had no problems; it's a fantastic car and we'll replace it with another Saab when the time comes (we're first-timer Saab-ers).

The best thing you can do, though, as with any used car is to try and focus your search on certified pre-owned (CPO) vehicles only.

Avoid at all costs the 2003/early 2004 9-3s with automatic transmissions (well-documented issues with radiator coolant contaminating the transmission fluid. The problem was fixed in later 9-3s).

Also, it is extremely important that you have a Saab dealer nearby to service the CPO warranty, etc. Our Saab dealer is excellent and that has made all the difference in the world.

The 9-3 seems to suffer from inconsistent quality issues; some of the 9-3s are excellent, like ours, but some are much less so. Just get a thorough pre-buy inspection at a Saab dealer and try to get as much info on it's previous service history as possible.
