Euro delivery (IDS) vehicles are generally built-to-order, so forget about getting an '06 unless you are very lucky. Sometimes IDS has a couple or three cars hanging around. (From people who died on the trip over? =8-O)

"Owner Loyalty" with IDS had been fixed at $500 come what may, while the loyalty program with SaabUSA has varied from zero up to $2000 on some models. Best bet is to call IDS and make sure. Note that IDS is a completely separate marketing arm from SaabUSA - they set their own rules and prices and never seem to have end-of-model-year discounts.

The factory does their model change over around July 1, and might do so a little early this year because of the styling changes. That said, when I toured the factory in June last year, I saw both 2006 and 2007 9-3s rolling down the line intermingled with 9-5s and Cadillac BLSs, so there seems to be a lot of flexibility.

If you were to order through IDS, you might as well hold back and get a 2008 model. There's a 6 week delay between ordering and picking it up in Europe.

IDS prices were 9% off MSRP, with no charge for transportation (even though they do transport it for you), $500 owner loyalty discount, and $2000 "walking around money" mailed back to you a couple of weeks after you make the final payment. Expenses are:
a) getting there,
b) about $100 for license and registration, and
c) insurance. Your own insurance company might cover you in Europe - mine did not. Insurance through Saab is fairly expensive: about $200 for the first two weeks coverage and $200 a month for coverage after that.

If you have frequent flier miles and just want to buy the car, you could zip over and back for just a few hundred dollars. If you are going over anyways, be careful about picking up and returning the car in any old city - it's not too bad in Scandanavia, Germany, and the Low Countries, but talk about Italy, Spain, or Greece and you are looking at close to all your walking around money just for the pick-up and delivery. Or you can pick up in Sweden and drive all the way, spending all you save on delivery for fuel and lodging.

The advantage of IDS is you get to choose the exact color and equipment you want and get essentially "end of model year incentive" pricing. If you are going to Europe anyways you get to drive your own car rather than a rental, if you are driving. If you would like a European Vacation and are buying a Saab anyways, the savings will go a ways toward paying for the vacation.
