You have to remove the bezel around the instrument cluster to get at the cupholder. The bezel overhangs the cupholder by just enough that you can't pry it out with the instrument bezel still in the way.
Careful with the dash vents. They tend to come apart on removal. They can be held together by hooking a garbage back twisty tie or 2 through the vents to secure the stack of moving plates to the housing before removal.
