There is a reason your alarm goes off when you hit the trunk release button. The 9-3 uses two springs, one on each side of the trunk, next to the fender, to counter the weight of the trunk lid. These springs are also supposed to lift the trunk lid slightly out of the lock assembly when the remote is activated. The springs are not strong enough, so the lid remains down in the lock. The problem is even worse if you add the weight of the trunk spoiler. There is a solution that works, however. If your car is a 2003 through 2005, you will find there are two rubber plugs on the underside of the trunk lid on the same plane as the trunk lock. Pull these plugs out, and you will see the rubber plug goes into a hole which also has a notch. Go to your dealer, and take a look at the same spot on a recent convertible. Saab uses a spring/bumper which pushes the trunk lid up as soon as you hit the trunk release button. Order these spring/bumbers from your dealer, they are not expensive. I have done this modification to my car, which is a 2006. No more false alarms, ever. One caveat.....if your car is a 2006 or 2007 you will have to drill the holes, and add the slots. Take a look at the convertible to see what it entails and take measurements. It is not that difficult....it took me about an hour, at most....just be carefull and use tape over the area you are drilling to keep the drill from "dancing". Also a punch to start the hole helps. Hope this helps.
