Correlation between oil life and Time For Service? Posted by MI-Roger [Email] ![]() ![]() |
My wife got the "Time for Service" message on her 9-3SC Monday. Since the car is still covered by the Free/Pre-paid Service for the first 30,000 miles I made an appointment for today.
The car received Saab Service in January of this year, and my wife doesn't drive the car very many miles. I expected the next Service alert to be caused by the 365 day clock in January of 2008.
While driving her car to the Service Dept this afternoon I played with the SID controls and learned: Oil life was 60%; Intermediate Service Due; and the odometer was reading 15,059 miles.
Does the Oil Life Algorithm estimate remaining oil life, or does it determine the service intervals?
Is remaining oil life estimated strictly from miles?
Is Intermediate Service calculated strictly from miles?
I see two inputs (miles driven and algorithm results) and two outputs (remaining oil life and Service Due). Which input controls each output?
I expected to see remaining oil life at 10% or less with Service Due indicated, not 60%!
BTW - My wife drives many short trips. The accumulated miles between the January visit and today was only around 7,000 miles.
